VfL Wolfsburg: Oliver Blume, first CEO of Volkswagen (club's owner) to join the supervisory board

Oliver Blume, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, owner of VfL Wolfsburg (Bundesliga), will become a member of the club's supervisory board from 01/01/2026, announced the club on 01/12/2025.

Although the club has been owned by the German car manufacturer since its creation in 1945, this is the first time that a CEO of the group has been appointed to this governing body. “This is an important step that further strengthens the close ties between the group and the club, a strong signal,” said Sebastian Rudolph, president of VfL Wolfsburg.

Meanwhile, Bernd Osterloh will leave the Präsidium (executive committee) of the supervisory board. He will be replaced by Diego Benaglio, former goalkeeper of the club.

VfL Wolfsburg is one of only two Bundesliga clubs to have been granted an exemption to the so-called ”50+1” rule (see below), which gives the association the majority of voting rights (50% + 1 vote) on the board of directors of a professional club's commercial company, since the rule came into force in 1998.
