Africa: CAF signs its first licensing agreement with a game publisher, Konami, for the AFCON (2025-2027)

Konami, a Japanese video games publisher, has become the "official gaming sponsor" of the TotalEnergies AFCON for its two upcoming editions (in Morocco in 2025, co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in 2027), announced the Confederation of African Football on 03/12/2025.

As part of this agreement, Konami secures "the exclusive gaming rights to recreate the TotalEnergies AFCON within its eFootball franchise," said the body. This marks the first licensing partnership signed by CAF with a video game publisher for its flagship competition, which until now was not featured in football simulation licences.

"This partnership marks a significant step forward in CAF’s digital transformation strategy, enhancing fan experiences and reinforcing the organisation’s long-term commitment to football development across Africa," added CAF.
