"The distribution partnership with Canal+ has always been excellent, whether in France or in francophone Africa. We are obviously competitors on certain programmes, but it is unlikely that we will be competing on sports content such as leagues or championships. Netflix is positioning itself around special sports events such as boxing or NFL games at Christmas," said Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of streaming platform Netflix, on the occasion of the ”The Original+” event organised by French group Canal+ at L’Olympia, in Paris, on 16/12/2025.

Netflix, which had a record 301.63 million subscribers worldwide in December 2024 (+41.35 million / +15.9% vs December 2023), is increasingly positioning itself in sports media rights at both local and international level. Among the next competitions to be broadcast globally by the platform are the boxing bout between American Jake Paul and Britain’s Anthony Joshua (19/12/2025) and the NFL Christmas Games 2025.
