"The FIFA Council approved a record-breaking financial contribution of $727m (€620m) to be distributed as a result of the 2026 World Cup. The biggest share - $655m (€558m), marking a 50% increase compared to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar - will be paid out as prize money among the 48 participating teams," announced FIFA following a meeting held in Doah (QAT) on 17/12/2025.

The winner of the competition (final in New York, New Jersey, on 19/07/2026) will take home $50m (€42.6m), while the runner-up will receive $33m (€28.1m).

"In addition, each qualified team will receive $1.5m (€128m) to cover preparation costs. This means that all participating member associations are guaranteed at least $10.5m (€8.95m) each for their participation in next year’s tournament," said FIFA.

"The 2026 World Cup will also be groundbreaking in terms of its financial contribution to the global football community," said Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA.
