Women’s football: FIFPRO warns of the financial precarity of most female internationals

Two-thirds of female international players earn less than $20,000 per year and 25% have a job outside football, while one-third are on club contracts of less than one year and 22% have no contract at all, according to a FIFPRO survey conducted between August and October 2025 among 407 footballers from 41 countries and published on 18/12/2025.

The global players’ union highlights the "lack of financial stability and security" and the "precarity" affecting the majority of players, despite the fact that they are among the highest-performing athletes, each having competed in a major continental tournament with their national team in 2024 or 2025 (UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina 2025, CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2024 or OFC Women’s Nations Cup 2025).
