"Mumbai City FC (Indian Super League) can confirm that City Football Group (CFG) has divested its shareholding in the club," announced the Indian club on 26/12/2025. The holding company for investments in football assets has sold its majority stake (65%), acquired on 28/11/2019, back to the founding owners of Mumbai City, Indian actor and film producer Ranbir Kapoor and Bimal Parekh.

"CFG has made this decision following a comprehensive commercial review and in light of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of the ISL. This step reflects CFG’s disciplined and strategic approach — ensuring its focus remains on areas where it can have the greatest long-term impact," said the group.

The Indian league has been suspended since the end of the 2024-25 season following the expiry of the agreement signed in 2010 between the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), a subsidiary of the Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries and the partner in charge of organising and commercialising the ISL.
