"I support Price Ali and, personally, I have no problem saying that, on the contrary in fact. I am firmly convinced that Ali, whom I have known for years, could be a great FIFA president," said Michel Platini, the president of UEFA and a vice-president of FIFA, on 25/05/2015.

The election of the FIFA President for the period 2015-2019, which will held at the congress of the international federation in Zurich (SUI) on 29/05/2015, pits the Swiss Joseph Blatter, 79, who has been FIFA president since 1998, against the Jordanian Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, 39, the president of the Jordanian Federation and a vice-president of FIFA. Michael van Praag (NED) and Luis Figo (POR), who were candidates, both announced that they would withdraw on 21/05/2015.

"I've said many times that FIFA needs a new leader, new blood and fresh air. At some point, you have to let go and not try to cling to the throne whatever the cost," said Michel Platini (who announced on 28/08/2014 that he would not run for the presidency of FIFA in 2015) in the French daily sports newspaper L'Équipe on 25/05/2015.
