Leeds City Council (England) has granted Leeds United FC (Premier League) planning permission to renovate and expand Elland Road capacity from 37,608 to 53,000 seats, announced the club on 08/01/2026.

Work is due to start at the end of the 2025-26 season and Elland Road will remain open and operational throughout the expansion. The project "will generate around £29m a year for the Leeds City Region economy supporting jobs, local businesses and long-term investment".

The project will "reduce" the 26,000 season ticket waiting list and elevate the stadium to UEFA category 4 status and therefore "enable Leeds to bid to host major international tournaments and events".

  • During preliminary consultations carried out by the club with supporters and residents, 98% of respondents said they were backing the project.
