Italy/FIGC: launch of the first data analysis course organised by a football federation

The first "advanced training course in data analysis" organised by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has begun at the Coverciano Technical Centre (near Florence, ITA), on 12/01/2026. "FIGC is the first football federation to introduce a course of this kind at federal level," said Gian Marco Campagnolo, professor at the University of Edinburgh and coordinator of the programme.

"This is an educational step that absolutely had to be taken, given the way football is evolving, but also society more generally; all top-level football clubs are now equipping themselves with a department dedicated to this area," declared Mario Beretta, president of the FIGC Technical Sector since 19/12/2025.

The programme includes 48 hours of teaching, half delivered in person at Coverciano and half online, spread over three months. Among the 26 participants enrolled in the course is Guido Didona, data analyst for the Italian women’s national team.
