FIFA: the Congress will name the organiser of the 2026 World Cup on 10/05/2017 in Kuala Lumpur

The organiser of the 2016 World Cup will be designated on 10/05/2017 at the 67^th FIFA Congress in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) from 10 to 12/05/2017, stated the international federation after a meeting of its Executive Committee in Zurich (SUI) on 25/05/2015.

The 23^rd World Cup in 2026 will be the first in which the host country will be voted on by the full FIFA Congress, and not only by the Executive Committee. The 65^th FIFA Congress is in Zurich on 28 and 29/05/2015.

World Cup: organising country now designated by 209 voters, instead of 25 (ExCo members)

• The designation of the host of the World Cup is now the result of a vote by the full FIFA Congress, and not just the Executive Committee (25 members + 2 non-voting members), decided the 63^rd Congress by referendum, meeting in Mauritius on 31/05/2013, by 198 votes in favour and 2 against.
  • The FIFA Congress is the forum brings together representatives of all the 209 member national federations.
