L1/2020-2024 TV rights: new ruling by the Paris Court of Appeal in favour of the LFP against Canal & beIN

"The LFP and LFP Media have welcomed the Paris Court of Appeal's rulings in their disputes with Canal+ and beIN SPORTS France. These rulings uphold all the decisions handed down by the courts (including the Paris Judicial Court, the Paris Commercial Court, the Competition Authority, the Paris Court of Appeal and the Court of Cassation) since 2021," announced the Ligue de Football Professionnel on 14/01/2026.

In September 2024, the Court of Cassation overturned a decision by the Paris Court of Appeal dated 03/02/2023, which had dismissed Canal+ and beIN SPORTS' appeal regarding the allocation of the Ligue 1 TV rights in 2021. The highest court in the French judicial system thus referred the case back to the Paris Court of Appeal, which had to rule again "without relying on the decisions of the Competition Authority."

The two broadcasters contested the LFP's decision to launch a call for tenders for its TV rights solely for the lots formerly held by Mediapro (on 19/01/2021). While this bidding process proved unsuccessful, it enabled the LFP to subsequently negotiate these lots…
