Italy: death of Rocco Commisso, president of ACF Fiorentina since 2019

"With great pain and sadness, the Commisso family, together with his wife Catherine, children Giuseppe and Marisa, and sisters Italia and Raffaelina, have announced the passing of President Rocco B. Commisso," according to ACF Fiorentina (Serie A Enilive) on 17/01/2026.

The Italian-American, born in Calabria (ITA), emigrated to the United States at the age of 12 and passed away at 76 "after a prolonged period of medical treatment." Founder and CEO of Mediacom Communications Corporation, a US telecommunications company, he had acquired the Florence-based club on 06/06/2019 from brothers Diego and Andrea Della Valle, whose family owns the Italian shoe brand Tod's, in a deal estimated at €170m by Italian media.

"His lasting contribution to the historic club is Rocco B. Commisso Viola Park, the state-of-the-art training centre opened in 2023 that serves as the permanent home for all ACF Fiorentina’s football teams, including the men’s, women’s (Serie A Women Athora), and youth squads," added the club, referring to a project whose final cost is estimated at close to €100m.
