FIFA: agreement with the South African government to open a new regional office in Johannesburg

Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, and Gayton McKenzie, South Africa's minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, in collaboration with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), have signed an agreement to open a new FIFA regional development office in Johannesburg (RSA), announced the international federation on 18/01/2026.

FIFA operates 10 regional offices worldwide, three of which are located in Africa (Dakar, Kigali and Johannesburg). It also has four continental hubs, including one in Rabat (MOR), which was inaugurated on 26/07/2025.

"The regional development offices ensure that FIFA can better understand the challenges that member associations face locally and provide support to help promote and develop football worldwide. The staff of the regional development offices are local and understand the culture, speak the same language and work in the same time zone as their member associations, enabling them to understand the situation faced by each member association on the ground."
