2026 World Cup: French, German, and British parliamentarians discuss a boycott

Several French, German, and British parliamentarians are calling for or discussing a boycott of the 2026 World Cup, including French MP Éric Coquerel (LFI, left wing), who questioned the idea of "playing the World Cup in a country that attacks its neighbors, threatens to invade Greenland, destroys international law, wants to torpedo the UN, establishes a fascist and racist militia in his country, attacks the opposition there, bans supporters from around 15 countries from attending the competition, and plans to ban all LGBT symbols from stadiums" in a post published on X on 20/01/2026.

"The question is a valid one, especially since there is still time to refocus on Mexico and Canada," added the French politician, referring indirectly to the United States (which is set to host 78 of the 104 matches of the 2026 World Cup) and Donald Trump, who has been in office as the 47^th US president for exactly one year as of 20/01/2026.
