"I told Blatter that he must have the courage, honesty, greatness to leave. He told me it was too late, that Congress begins in a few hours..." stated Michel Platini, the UEFA president, during a press conference in Zurich (SUI), on 28/05/2015.

Eugenio Figueredo (Uruguay) and Jeffrey Webb (Cayman Islands), two of the eight vice-presidents of FIFA, and five other leaders of international football were arrested in Zurich (SUI) on 27/05/2015, following extradition requests made by United States, on the eve of the opening of the FIFA Congress (28 and 29/05/2015), in which the president of the international federation for the 2015-2019 period will be elected.

"A very large majority of national associations from Europe will vote for Prince Ali, and if they are to be trusted I believe he will get 45 or 46 votes from Europe. I'm trying to convince a couple who are not convinced," said Michel Platini, just before the opening of the award ceremony of the 65th FIFA Congress on 05/28/2015 (17:00 CET).
