The allocation of places per confederation for the final phase of the World Cup will remain unchanged for the 2018 edition in Russia and the 2022 edition in Qatar, decided the FIFA Executive Committee at its meeting in Zurich (SUI) on 30/05/2015, following the FIFA Congress in which Joseph Blatter was re-elected the president of the international federation for another four years (until 2019).

The distribution therefore remains the same as the status quo for the 32 places in the final phase of World Cup:
• Africa: 5
• Asia: 4 or 5 (last slot contests an inter-continental play-off)
• Europe: 13
• North America, Central America and Caribbean: 3 or 4 (last slot contests an inter-continental play-off)
• Oceania: 0 or 1 (only slot contests an inter-continental play-off)
• South America: 4 or 5 (last slot contests an inter-continental play-off)
• Host country: 1

Europe will therefore have 14 representatives (13 slots + 1 for the host country) in Russia in 2018, and 13 during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

"For 2026, it is another matter and we will discuss it" (Michel Platini on 28/05/2015)
