Germany: publication of ”Bundesliga wirkt”, the DFL's first sustainability report

The Deutsche Fußball Liga published "Bundesliga wirkt" ("The impact of the Bundesliga"), its first report dedicated to sustainable development in German professional football, on 17/02/2026.

"This first report highlights substantial progress in recent years. All 36 Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga clubs now have a sustainability strategy and employ a sustainability manager. In addition, around 80% of clubs publish their own report, which strengthens transparency," said the DFL, which indicates that 43 million Germans are interested in football and that 2.3 million have a licence in one of the 36 professional clubs' multi-sport sections.

Among the figures put forward by the German League:
• "80% of the electricity consumed by clubs comes from renewable energy sources;
• 15 clubs use green electricity exclusively;
• all clubs now calculate their carbon footprint;
• all clubs actively promote sustainable mobility for supporters with appropriate facilities;
• all clubs have dedicated supporter liaison officers dedicated to inclusion and diversity issues".
