Leicester City: appeal against six-point deduction in Sky Bet Championship for breaching EFL rules

Leicester City FC have appealed the six-point deduction imposed in the 2025-26 Sky Bet Championship table on 05/02 following the decision of an independent commission, ratified and applied with immediate effect by the English Football League, announced the Premier League on 19/02/2026. The club was found to be in breach of the EFL Profit and Sustainability Rules (P&S Rules).

The Premier League, to which the investigation had been transferred following Leicester’s promotion to the top flight in summer 2024, has also lodged an appeal, but on the opposite grounds, considering the sanction to be insufficient.

The independent commission decided not to take into account the club’s failure to submit its audited annual accounts on time for the assessment period ending at the close of the 2023-24 season. A maximum deduction of 12 points was possible under the applicable regulations. The commission, however, chose to impose a six-point deduction after taking into account the club’s "improving financial position". Leicester City reported a net loss of £19.4m for the 2023-24 financial year.
