European Leagues: governance, international calendar, distribution and transfers among 2026 priorities

"Ensuring that the governance model of football, the International Match Calendar, revenue distribution models and the transfer system continue to serve the interests of domestic leagues and the wider football ecosystem" are the priorities identified by the Board of European Leagues, which met for the first time in 2026 on 19/02.

The association of European professional leagues spoke three weeks ahead of its general assembly to be held in Sofia (Bulgaria) from 10 to 12/03/2026.

"The responsibilities and actions of international governing bodies are crucial to the long-term health of domestic football, which forms the foundation of the football pyramid," said European Leagues.

The association intends to work with various stakeholders depending on the topic:
• with UEFA and the EFC in the upcoming "discussions and negotiations concerning the revenue distribution model of UEFA club competitions for the 2027-2031 cycle," with the objective of achieving "an enhanced distribution model providing stronger guarantees and safeguards for competitive balance";
