"The Lega Serie A has received, following the first batch of compensation claims sent to individuals identified by the Guardia di Finanza (Italian tax authorities) as part of criminal proceedings No. 7719/2022 at the Court of Lecce (Puglia, Italy), the first compensation payments from pirate users," announced the Italian league on 27/02/2026.

"As well as the administrative penalty imposed by the Guardia di Finanza, recipients of the measure are also required to pay €1,000 in compensation for the damage caused by the illegal viewing of audiovisual content, as agreed in the settlement," added the body.

The law aimed at combating the pirate broadcasting, particularly of sporting events, has been in force in Italy since 08/08/2023. The Piracy Shield platform was subsequently launched in Italy by AGCOM on 01/02/2024, allowing the blocking of websites illegally broadcasting content, including live sporting events, within 30 minutes of being reported.
