Bundesliga: introduction of a squad cost/revenue ratio capped at 70% from the 2026-27 season

The DFL members assembly has approved the introduction of new financial regulations for Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga clubs from the 2026-27 season, including a key measure imposing a maximum ratio of 70% for staff costs in relation to revenue generated, announced the German league on 03/03/2026.

This new system, which is "based on the UEFA financial sustainability regulations applicable to international club competitions," aims to "ensure the long-term financial stability of German professional football." To be introduced gradually from 2026-27, with full application planned from the 2028-29 season, it "distinguishes between clubs participating in UEFA competitions and those not participating. Furthermore, the system differentiates between deficits covered by equity and those not covered by equity.
