Basketball / NBA Europe: "The best outcome would be to come together with EuroLeague" (Adam Silver, NBA)

"For the betterment of European basketball, the best outcome would be if we came together with the EuroLeague and came up with a systematic approach to growing the game throughout Europe," Adam Silver, commissioner of the NBA, said at a press conference held following two days of meetings of the NBA Board of Governors, on 25/03/2026.

On this occasion, Mark Tatum, COO and deputy commissioner of the NBA, presented franchise owners with updates on the NBA’s expansion plans in Europe, including the creation of a men’s continental competition in partnership with FIBA Europe (announced on 27/03/2025), which is set to launch in October 2027. "There were no votes taken on that. It was more of an update," Adam Silver said.

The recent appointment of Chus Bueno as CEO of Euroleague Basketball (on 30/01/2026) could help smooth relations between the two organisations. "We know the leadership in the EuroLeague very well.
