CAF: departure of general secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba, Samson Adamu promoted to interim position

"After more than 30 years of an international professional career dedicated to promoting an ideal of football that brings people together, educates and creates opportunities for hope, I have decided to step down from my position as general secretary of CAF in order to devote myself to more personal projects," Véron Mosengo-Omba said in a statement published on 29/03/2026.

The Swiss-Congolese national was appointed to this position on 13/03/2021, the day following Patrice Motsepe’s election as president of the Confederation of African Football.

"Now that I have been able to clear my name from the suspicions that some people went to great lengths to cast upon me, I can step down with a clear conscience and without any pressure, leaving behind a CAF that is more prosperous than ever, “ he added, referring to the investigation into ”allegations of violations of internal regulations within the CAF Secretariat" launched by the African Confederation’s audit and governance committee in early August 2024, which ultimately found no evidence of wrongdoing.
