Africa: a "historic Memorandum of Understanding" signed between African Leagues and FIFPRO Africa

African Leagues has signed a "historic Memorandum of Understanding" with FIFPRO Africa (African division of the international footballers’ union) in Cairo (EGY) on 28/03/2026. "This document marks a significant step forward in strengthening governance and labour relations across African professional football," the two organisations announced on 07/04/2026.

African Leagues is a newly created regional division of the World Leagues Association, bringing together eight African professional football leagues (Algeria, Botswana, Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe). Its launch was announced in Cairo on 28/03/2026.

The African Leagues-FIFPRO Africa agreement "establishes a structured and ongoing social dialogue between African Leagues (representing the interests of employers) and FIFPRO Africa (representing the interests of players). It aims to support improved governance frameworks, better labour conditions and long-term sustainability within national competitions across the continent," the signatories state.
