Sky Bet Championship: six-point deduction for Leicester City FC upheld after breach of financial rules

An independent appeal board upheld the decision to impose a six-point deduction on Leicester City FC in the 2025-26 Sky Bet Championship table, following a breach of the EFL’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (P&S Rules), announced the Premier League on 08/04/2026.

The club had appealed the sanction on 19/02 after it was imposed by an independent Commission and ratified by the English Football League on 05/02/2026. The Premier League, to which the investigation had been transferred following Leicester’s promotion to the top flight in summer 2024, also lodged an appeal, considering the sanction to be insufficient. Both appeals were dismissed.

The independent commission had decided not to take into account the club’s failure to submit its audited annual accounts on time for the assessment period ending at the close of the 2023-24 season. A maximum deduction of 12 points was possible under the applicable regulations, but the Commission imposed a six-point deduction after taking into account the club’s "improving financial position".
