LALIGA: "Spanish football has become an important financial centre for investors" (Javier Tebas)

"Investment funds, foreign investors and world-class banks like Goldman Sachs are increasingly interested in Spanish football, and not just the big clubs. I'm thinking of stadium financing projects like those at Real Betis and Valencia CF. We have also seen the American fund Apollo Sports Capital acquire Atlético de Madrid. All this is an indirect consequence of CVC's entry. We have become an important financial centre for investors," Javier Tebas, president of LALIGA, said to News Tank on 23/03/2026.

The Spaniard's comments came after he spoke on the fight against piracy at an event organised by APPS and News Tank in Paris (see "Further reading" section). In particular, he referred to the agreement between the Spanish Professional Football League and CVC Capital Partners, signed in 2021, which saw the investment fund invest nearly €2bn on behalf of the clubs in exchange for an 8.2% stake in LALIGA Group International, a company set up to manage the commercial and technological rights of Spain's two professional leagues, and to receive 10% of the audiovisual revenues generated…
