Athletic Club Bilbao: sole candidate, Jon Uriarte re-elected president without a vote

Jon Uriarte Uranga, president of Athletic Club Bilbao (LALIGA EA Sports) since 24/06/2022, was the only candidate to stand in the elections scheduled for 08/05/2026 and is therefore re-elected without a vote, the club announced on 18/04/2026.

The club’s electoral commission did not register any other candidacy by the 18/04 deadline. Jon Uriarte is thus re-elected for a four-year term, after winning the previous election with 46.7% of the vote (10,979 votes in his favour in June 2022), ahead of Inaki Arechabaleta (33.72%) and Ricardo Barkala (18.13%), in a ballot that saw a total of 23,506 members vote, representing a turnout of 58.4%.

Having previously worked at investment banks Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley, Jon Uriarte is an entrepreneur and head of All Iron Ventures, an investment fund (€500m in assets under management) based in Bilbao. In 2009, he co-founded Ticketbis, a ticket resale company (sport, concerts and shows), which was sold to eBay in 2016 for €165m.
