Piracy/Spain: IPTV network active in 13 countries fined €30m and ordered to pay €12m in compensation

The Criminal Chamber of Spain's National Court (Sala de lo Penal de la Audiencia Nacional) has convicted a network of IPTV services illegally broadcasting sports content, including LALIGA matches, "for offences against the market and consumers, intellectual property, and money laundering," the Spanish league announced on 22/04/2026.

The service was accessible "to more than two million people from servers spread across 13 countries on three continents," according to LALIGA. The judgment sets compensation of €12m for the affected companies and more than €30m in fines for money laundering.

The case was initiated "years ago" following a complaint by Nagravision, a subsidiary of the Swiss Kudelski Group specialising in OTT technologies and solutions. The Spanish league and other companies such as Telefonica (owner of the pay-TV group Movistar Plus+) and Mediapro subsequently joined the proceedings.
