Liga BBVA: Elche demoted to the second division for non-payment of its tax debt, saving Eibar

Elche CF, 13th in the Liga BBVA in 2014-15, has been demoted to Liga Adelante for the 2015-16 season because of non-payment of its tax debt, announced La Liga on 05/06/2015.

"Elche CF always shows a debt to the AEAT (Agencia Estatal de la Administración Tributaria, the Spanish Treasury) which is neither canceled nor postponed or guaranteed, as highlighted by the AEAT," stated the Spanish Professional Football League.

Elche CF, also punishable by a fine of €180,303, announced its intention to appeal the decision to CAS. If the La Liga decision is confirmed, SD Eibar, 18th in the Liga BBVA in 2014-15, which is the first relegation place to the Liga Adelante, would be saved from relegation and remain in the first division in 2015-16.
