Germany: RTL Group's takeover of Sky Deutschland finalised on 01/06, new governance for RTL

The acquisition of pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland by RTL Group has been approved by the European Commission and will therefore be finalised on 01/06/2026, the subsidiary of the German group Bertelsmann announced on 22/04/2026.

This acquisition from the Comcast group, valued at €150m, was announced in June 2025 but remained subject to various approvals. "This transaction brings together two of the most well-known media brands in the DACH region and creates an entertainment company with approximately 12.3 million paying subscribers," RTL, which is also a shareholder in the M6 group (holding 49.35%), said.

"This transaction combines Sky Deutschland’s premium sports rights - including the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal, the Premier League, and Formula 1 - with RTL’s leading entertainment and news brands, through RTL+, free-to-air television, and pay television."
