Italy: "Placing the FIGC under supervision would violate the principle of autonomy" (G. Gravina, FIGC)

"The possibility, as provided for by law, of placing the FIGC under supervision would not solve the problems and would constitute a blatant violation of the principle of autonomy enshrined in and protected by the statutes of the IOC, FIFA and UEFA," Gabriele Gravina, resigning president of the Italian Football Federation, said following a meeting of the Federal Council at the FIGC headquarters in Rome (ITA) on 27/04/2026.

The FIGC president is referring to a bill introduced by senator Paolo Marcheschi (Fratelli d’Italia, far-right), aimed at "making the football sector structurally sustainable, without state aid, by promoting the national collective interest through the development of training centres, the education of young talents eligible for the national team, and the construction of infrastructure, without encroaching on the Federation’s autonomy."
