76^th FIFA Congress: "I will be a candidate in the 2027 FIFA presidential election" (Gianni Infantino)

"I want to tell you first - the 211 (FIFA) member associations - that I will be a candidate in the FIFA presidential election next year," Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, said at the conclusion of the 76^th FIFA Congress in Vancouver (Canada), on 30/04/2026.

Elected on 26/02/2016 and subsequently re-elected twice on 05/06/2019 and 16/03/2023, Gianni Infantino is legally eligible to stand for re-election as FIFA president despite the three-term limit. The Swiss-Italian's first term of office is considered "incomplete" because it consisted of completing that of his predecessor Joseph Blatter, who was suspended on 08/10/2015 in connection with the controversial payment of CHF 2m (€1.54m at the time of payment) to Michel Platini.

The former UEFA general secretary (2009-2016) has already received the official support of CONMEBOL (statement of 09/04/2026), CAF (29/04/2026) and the AFC (29/04/2026).
