DFL: partnership with SAFA to strengthen ties between the Bundesliga and South Africa

Bundesliga Media, the DFL’s new sales and digital subsidiary, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the South African Football Association (SAFA) "to reinforce their shared commitment to developing football talent and strengthening ties between Germany and South Africa," the Deutsche Fußball Liga announced on 07/05/2026.

The agreement focuses on five main areas:
• the launch of the “Bundesliga Dream South Africa” programme, the first of its kind in Africa, which will see the South African Under-16 national team train and play in Germany from 15-25/05/2026;
• commercial and sponsorship collaboration;
• fan engagement and the international development of both entities;
• media and communications training;
• knowledge-sharing linked to sporting development.

The DFL has a presence in South Africa through its Johannesburg office, "where it works directly with several major partners, including SABC," its regional media partner.
