VfL Wolfsburg: crest change with immediate effect on digital platforms and from 2027-28 on kits

VfL Wolfsburg (Bundesliga) have changed their crest "with immediate effect," starting from the home match against FC Bayern Munich (0-1) on 09/05/2026, the club owned by German car manufacturer Volkswagen announced on the same day.

The new logo is a modernised version of the one used since 2002 (see below), featuring the return of the battlements above the letter W. This crest format, used during the club’s early decades under different forms from 1945 to 2001, had been requested by supporters.

While the new emblem has already been rolled out across the club’s digital platforms, it will be introduced progressively at the Volkswagen Arena. However, "due to lead times of nearly two years in kit production, the current logo will remain on the playing kit in the 2026-27 season," the club said.

In collaboration with Nike, the club's equipment supplier, "a way has nevertheless been created for the crest to already appear on a special kit next season," before featuring on all official kits from 2027-28 onwards.
