Serie A: final 2015-16 Europa League slot still not clear, Genoa out, Sampdoria and Inter Milan next

The licence of UC Sampdoria (Serie A TIM) for European competitions in 2015-16 is "under investigation" by UEFA, according to the Italian daily sport newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport on 12/06/2015. A betting scandal involving Sampdoria in 2011 -- which caused the club to be docked one point during the 2012-13 Serie A TIM season -- is reported to be the centre of the inquiry, according to Italian press, who indicate that UEFA has asked for further documentation from both the club and the FIGC.

UC Sampdoria, the 7th place finisher in the 2014-15 Serie A TIM, have already replaced the 6th place finisher Genoa CFC as the final Italian participant in the 2015-16 Europa League. Genoa did not receive a European licence from the FIGC in May. Should Sampdoria also fail to meet licensing standards, FC Internazionale Milano, the 8th place finisher, would be next in line for the final Europa League slot.
