Spain: Thibaut Courtois (BEL, Real Madrid) co-owner of CD Extremadura, promoted to the 3^rd division

Belgian international goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid CF, LALIGA EA Sports) has become co-owner of CD Extremadura, a Spanish club based in Almendralejo (south-west Spain) promoted to the third division following the 2025-26 season, the club announced on 18 May 2026.

Thibaut Courtois is investing in the club through his investment vehicle NXTPLAY Capital, co-founded with Gonzalo Vila, an entity that has already been a minority shareholder in Le Mans FC (promoted to Ligue 1 McDonald’s for 2026-27) since February 2026.

Daniel Tafur, previously the club’s sole owner, will remain president and "continue to lead the sporting and institutional project." The deal, "which the parties had been working on for nearly a year, comes at a historic moment for the club: CD Extremadura has just secured a fourth consecutive promotion, a record in Spanish football."

Thibaut Courtois is also an investor in Spanish organisation Dux Gaming, owner of Dux Logroño in Liga F Moeve.
