2025-26 Champions League final: Prime Minister Keir Starmer calls for free-to-air broadcast in the UK

"Hardworking people shouldn’t have to fork out for a subscription to watch this match. I urge TNT Sports to reconsider and make next Saturday’s final free to watch," UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer (Labour Party) said on his X account on 23 May 2026 regarding the broadcast of the 2025-26 Champions League final.

UK broadcaster TNT Sports has announced that it will not air the final free-to-air in the United Kingdom despite the presence of Arsenal FC (Premier League), who will face Paris Saint-Germain (Ligue 1 McDonald’s) on 30 May 2026. The final will therefore not be available free-to-air in the territory for the very first time since 1992 and the transition from the European Champion Clubs’ Cup (created in 1955) to the Champions League.

"Football should bring people together, not shut them out. For the first time since the competition began, fans won’t be able to watch the Champions League final for free. That’s not right. This is bigger than wanting to watch Arsenal in this final. It’s bigger than one club," the Prime Minister added.
