FIFA: former Brazilian international Zico announces his desire to run for presidency

Zico, a former Brazilian international who full name is Arthur Antunes Coimbra, announced his desire to be a candidate for the presidency of FIFA on 11/06/2015.

"I would like to confirm the decision to be a candidate. I feel I am capable. For sure, certain rules need to change. Mainly because with the rules in place now there isn't the slightest possibility (of being elected)," said Zico, who is 62 years old, on 11/06/2015.

  • Zico played 72 official matches and scored 52 goals for Brazil's national team between 1976 and 1988.
    • He participated in three World Cups (1978, 1982 and 1986) though never won the trophy himself.

"I am against having to be supported by five federations" (Zico)

  • "Those who know my story know my seriousness. If there is a possibility, with necessary change, I will be candidate.
  • If the rules do not change, I will not be a candidate.
  • I will not spend my money on buying plane tickets to go around the world to ask for votes.
  • I have not spoken with anyone. I am against having to be supported by five federations. I think that's where the corruption…
