LALIGA: launch of “Smart Insights”, an AI tool to enhance live match broadcasts

LALIGA has launched “Smart Insights”, an artificial intelligence solution developed with Sportian (the joint venture between the Spanish league and Globant) capable of analysing matches in real time and automatically generating historical and statistical comparisons for commentators, the Spanish league announced on 9 June 2026.

The system will first be tested during the LALIGA Hypermotion promotion play-off semi-finals before being integrated into the competition’s broadcasts from the 2026-27 season onwards. A gradual rollout in LALIGA EA Sports is also planned.

Smart Insights simultaneously uses LALIGA’s historical data and live match events to identify similarities, trends and comparable references. The information generated is automatically delivered to commentators through dedicated Telegram channels.

The solution is based on three artificial intelligence models:
• a goal-comparison tool capable of identifying similar historical goals based on the player’s position, type of shot or tactical context;
• a match-comparison model analysing metrics such as possession, shots, fouls and…
