The 2026 World Cup is expected to generate $9.1bn in GDP across the three host countries: $6.1bn in the United States, which will host 75% of the matches (78 out of 104), $1.7bn in Mexico and $1.3bn in Canada (13 matches each), according to a study published on 10 June 2026 by Allianz Trade, a subsidiary of the German insurance group specialising in business services.

"The US is expected to capture the majority of economic benefits simply because it hosts the majority of matches, though relative to its economy the effect will be small," according to the report. This impact should amount to 0.1 percentage points of quarterly growth, with gains likely concentrated in transportation, hospitality, food services, entertainment and retail.

"Lodging and airlines emerge as the clearest winners, supported by peak hotel occupancy rates of 90-95%, with room prices rising by up to +15-20% in selected host cities following the draw phases," Allianz added, pointing out that the competition will however be "a high-intensity, short-duration demand shock rather than a structural growth driver.…
