Rugby: Grand Stade de Lyon a candidate to host the 2016 European Champions Cup

"We will try to host the final of the European Rugby Champions Cup in 2016 in Décines (the suburb of Lyon with the Grand Stade de Lyon)," said Jean-Michel Aulas, the president of Olympique Lyonnais (Ligue 1) on 11/06/2015. The delivery of the new stadium of 59,000 places, which belongs to the OL Groupe holding company, is expected in January 2016.

"It is a multipurpose stadium, with a hybrid pitch able to host football, but also rugby. And we will also do concerts. (...) We have already scheduled a large concert with a world star for July 2016," said Jean-Michel Aulas to News Tank Football on 24/03/2015.

  • The construction work has officially started on 29/07/2013.
  • The stadium will host six of the 51 matches of Euro 2016:
    • Four group matches on 13, 16, 19 and 22/06/2016.
    • One Round of 16 match on 26/06/2016
    • The first semi-final on 06/07/2016.
