Stade Brestois 29: new academy-focused project as president Le Saint takes a more active role

Stade Brestois 29 (Ligue 1 McDonald's) is "entering a new cycle with youth development at the heart of its project," the club announced on 28 June 2026.

"At a time when the club’s financial resources are shrinking and the recruitment model that underpinned our recent success is showing its limits, one conclusion has become unavoidable: too few academy graduates are making the step up to the professional squad. Yet, with 222 clubs across the Finistère department and 43,580 registered players, the region represents an outstanding talent pool," the club said. It intends to rely on a network of 13 local clubs as well as its partnership with Armor FC in Diamniadio (Senegal).

The reorganisation was initiated following the departure of sporting director Grégory Lorenzi (who joined Olympique de Marseille) on 8 May and was driven by head coach Eric Roy, who died on 17 June 2026.
