Japan: City Football Group sells minority stake in Yokohama F. Marinos back to Nissan

City Football Group (CFG), a holding company investing in football assets (professional clubs, infrastructure, innovation), has sold its 20% stake in Yokohama F. Marinos (J.League 1) to Japanese car manufacturer Nissan, which once again becomes the club’s sole owner, the latter announced on 25 June 2026.

CFG became a minority shareholder in May 2014 after acquiring its stake from the Japanese company. Nevertheless, the two entities will continue to work together, with Yokohama F. Marinos now becoming a “partner club” of City Football Group, which owns nine football clubs including Manchester City FC (Premier League).

The transaction marks CFG’s second divestment of the 2025-26 financial year, following the sale of its majority stake (65%) in Mumbai City FC (Indian Super League) to the club’s founding owners, actor and film producer Ranbir Kapoor and Bimal Parekh, in December 2025.

CFG reported revenue of £888m (€1.039bn) for the 2025 financial year (1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025), down 5% from 2023-24 (£933.1m / €1.101bn), while its net loss widened significantly to £291.1m (€340.6m)…
