FIFA: 50 MEPs call for investigation into Gianni Infantino over alleged breach of political neutrality

50 Members of the European Parliament have signed a letter calling on FIFA to open an investigation into its president, Gianni Infantino, over alleged breaches of the world governing body’s political neutrality rules, on 29 June 2026.

The letter was addressed to Gianni Infantino (ITA-SUI-LBN), FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafström (SWE), as well as FIFA’s Ethics Committee.

UK-based NGO FairSquare filed a complaint with the investigatory chamber of FIFA’s Ethics Committee on 8 December 2025, alleging four instances in which Gianni Infantino breached Article 15 of the FIFA Code of Ethics by publicly expressing support for the actions and policies of Donald Trump, president of the United States.

"With the eyes of the world on FIFA this summer, the organisation must address FairSquare’s ethics complaint. This complaint represents an opportunity for FIFA to prove its commitment to political neutrality, transparency and accountability," the authors of the letter, co-signed by the 50 MEPs, wrote.
