United Kingdom: Sky acquires ITV Group’s media businesses (TV, streaming) for £1.6bn

The British group Sky has agreed to acquire the media and entertainment division of the private group ITV (“ITV Media & Entertainment”) from ITV plc, the two companies announced on 6 July 2026.

The deal, valued at £1.6bn (€1.87bn), is still "subject to customary conditions and regulatory approvals" and is expected to be finalised in the second half of 2027, according to Sky and ITV.

The private group’s free-to-air channels and its ITVX streaming platform are included in the deal, unlike its production arm, ITV Studios, which will become a "pure-play global content business with its shares listed on the London Stock Exchange." Sky, owned by the US conglomerate Comcast, has also committed to spending at least £2.1bn between 2028 and 2032 as part of this takeover.
