Euroleague: up to eight franchises planned as process attracts "€1.2bn in potential investment"

Euroleague Basketball officially launched its franchise award process, which provides for up to eight new franchises for the 2027-28 season, the European governing body announced on 7 July 2026. These franchises take the form of permanent licences granted to clubs, guaranteeing them long-term participation in the competition.

Euroleague reports "exceptional interest" even before the official launch of the process, with more than 20 proposals submitted that meet the established evaluation criteria. "The number of interested investors continues to grow every week," Euroleague Basketball said. The proposals received to date represent "more than €1.2bn in potential investment."
