16.6 million households subscribe to pay-TV in the UK (satellite, cable, IPTV) as of 31/03/2015, compared to 15.6 million on 31/03/2014, according to figures from the North American market research and marketing consulting company IHS, 16/06/2015. This represents an increase of 6.4% year on year.

Sky leads the pay-TV market with 11.9 million subscribers in the UK and Ireland on 31/03/2015, registering 400,000 new subscribers (+3.5%) compared to 31/03/2014. Now TV, the OTT service launched by Sky in 2012, offset the loss of 52,000 satellite TV subscribers with an "attractive offer, drawing new consumers and minimising risks to the traditional customer base", between late 2014 and 31/03/2015, according to the IHS.

Now TV allows the viewer to watch a selection of entertainment programmes and films broadcast by Sky channels, on demand, with a rolling monthly subscription as well as to subscribe to Sky Sports channels for a day for £6.99 per day (about €10).
