The National Studies Commission of the URBSFA unanimously approved the reforms and restructuring of professional and amateur football in Belgium on 15/06/2015. Beginning from the 2016-17 season, Belgian professional football will consist of 16 clubs in the Jupiler Pro League, and 8 clubs in the second division.

The first two divisions will also become a closed circuit of professional football in Belgium. Semi-pro and amateur football would thus begin at the third division. Currently, there are 16 clubs in the Jupiler Pro League, and 17 clubs in the second division for the 2015-16 season.
