2026 World Cup: "All possible records have been smashed" (Gianni Infantino, FIFA)

"This World Cup has not just broken all possible records, it has smashed them, it has destroyed every record. We have had a record number of spectators in the stadiums, almost 7 million. We will have had, with official figures coming out soon, probably over 6 billion people watching it from home. We broke the number of goals, almost three goals per match, over 300 goals," Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, said just after presenting, alongside Donald Trump, the World Cup trophy to Rodri, captain of the Spanish team that won the 2026 tournament, on 19 July at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
