"Roberto Mancini will return as head coach of the national team, while Claudio Ranieri will take on the role of the Federation’s technical director and will also serve as president of ”Club Italia”," announced Giovanni Malago, president of the FIGC, following a Federal Council meeting on 28 July 2026.

"I believed it was right that the person who would become head coach of the Azzurri should be Roberto Mancini, for a whole range of reasons," the president of the Italian federation said, 36 days after his election.

The announcement comes a day after the resignation of Paolo Maldini, who had served as the FIGC’s technical director and president of “Club Italia” for just 16 days, along with his advisor Leonardo. Andrea Pirlo had ultimately been ruled out for the head coach position because of…
